As a reminder, the Funding Round Five application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on May 31, 2024. Additionally, the CEC is not currently able to execute grant agreements after June 1, 2024, due to the final program reporting deadline of June 1, 2026, and the two-year project term provided for all grant projects, as described in the guidelines. Please make every effort to submit complete and accurate applications well in advance of the May 31st deadline and submit notice of proposed award documents as soon as the application is approved to ensure a grant agreement is able to be executed prior to the deadline.

California Schools Healthy Air, Plumbing, And Efficiency Program

The California Schools Healthy Air, Plumbing and Efficiency Program (CalSHAPE) will provide funding to upgrade heating, air conditioning, and ventilation (HVAC) systems in public schools and also to replace noncompliant plumbing fixtures and appliances that fail to meet water efficiency standards.

Notices of Funding Availability for both Funding Round 5 and the Upgrade and Repair (U&R) Grant Program are posted to the 20-RENEW-01 docket log: https://efiling.energy.ca.gov/Lists/DocketLog.aspx?docketnumber=20-RENEW-01. The notices provide information about the application period, eligibility of state agencies to apply along with all sites in a funding category, and available funding.  


Applications are submitted electronically using the CalSHAPE Online System. An access link, instructions, and a video training can be found by visiting the CalSHAPE Webpage: https://www.energy.ca.gov/programs-and-topics/programs/california-schools-healthy-air-plumbing-and-efficiency-program and clicking on the “Online System” expandable menu.

(Ting, Chapter 372, Statutes 2020) authorizes the California Schools Healthy Air, Plumbing, and Efficiency (CalSHAPE) Programs.
